SUGARBAG YARDS
LIVE EXPORT
Sugarbag Qld has a passion for live export. Sugarbag Qld is designed to increase animal welfare, limit environmental impacts, whilst increasing the speed of loading export vessels.
Sugarbag Qld also has coastal facilities in place to compliment the facilities of Sugarbag Yards. This includes Harbour-side yards and loading facilities at Mourilyan Harbour. These are within two car-driving hours of each other.
Sugarbag Yards plays a vital role is preparation of cattle for the live export trade. All protocolling can be preformed quickly and easily in one single run through the races of Sugarbag Yards. Animal welfare always comes first and foremost to Sugarbag Qld. The stock can be tagged, dipped, weighed, needled, drafted, mouthed and their NLIS tags read in one run around the Yards, before being allowed to relax in their spacious, compaction-tested yards. By only running through the race once, the stress placed on the animals is vastly reduced.
Teaching the Live Export stock to eat certain feeds, the same as they will be feed on the ship, is another major factor. It is also strongly believed that by doing this, before they embark on their export trip, they settle into their trip better, eat straight away, thus they hold their condition, or even put weight on, on their trip. This is a big step forward in animal welfare.
